Honouring the elephants’ right of way, a timber walkway, towering above these giants, meanders through the trees and joins the ten luxurious tented suites of exquisite comfort. Tastefully decorated with natural colors and evoking a gentle balance of serenity, the decadently spacious tented suites open completely and emanate a feeling of vastness and opulence.
As dawn breaks your morning tea or coffee, together with homemade biscuits, are personally delivered to your tent by our Chef. From the privacy of your tree house deck, watch the sky illuminate with hues of purple and amber and re-energize for the days adventure ahead.
The main feature, and the heart of the lodge, is the majestic viewing deck, from where your “open to sky” dining, with rewarding views of the floodplains below, are more than often the playground for large herds of elephants, buffalo and plains game that later seek refuge and security under your tented suite for the night.
The elegant Safari Lounge creates a perfect fusion of energy and relaxation, which emphasises a sense of place. A library with a mixture of vintage artifacts and books, as well as small relics found on site while building the lodge on this historical military area, all encourage a touch and exploration.
Often, a game drive away from the lodge becomes so unnecessary as the elephants and wildlife meander through the camp. Sundowners are then enjoyed from the safety of the decks or lengthy walkways, only meters above these animals as they traverse below you and go about their feeding.
So much to experience at Nambwa Tented Lodge
As the rains fall softly over the dark highland forests of southern Angola, the precious waters erode away at the landscape to form streams. Meandering down the slopes joining into powerful cascades over boulders, it finds its way down the escarpment on a journey southwards, beyond the borders of its origins. Arriving at the vast floodplains of the Kwando River in Namibia and in the heart of KAZA, it spreads out, flowing through natural landscapes and claiming back its rightful purpose as a life-giving source.
It is here where you will find the unobtrusive Nambwa Tented Lodge, nestled high amongst majestic Jackalberry, Sausage and Knobthorn trees.
Guided Game Drive
We are the only lodge in the entire region that is authorized to offer night drives. This is an incredible opportunity to head out and spot the elusive nocturnal creatures, as well as some of the big cats in action if we are truly lucky. There are a lot of elusive nocturnal animals that make an African night safari so special. We’ll go out in search of leopards, bushbabies, civets, genets, hyena, aardvark and more, plus we’ll see lots of hippos as they come out to eat during the night.
You can enjoy morning or afternoon boat cruise to explore the Kwando River, replete with the constant movement of elephants, hippos, crocodiles, reptiles, several species of antelope and their predators, giraffes, and more than 450 species of birds. This is a chance to view these magnificent animals as they go about their foraging and hunting. The cruise lasts three hours. It includes beverages and a light snack.
Guided Bush Walk
We also offer guided bush walks throughout the park. The walks are conducted by our local guides from the Conservancy. It provides an opportunity to get up close and personal with the flora and fauna. You’ll be sure to see elephants and lots of smaller creatures along the way. The walk takes about three hours and includes a rest stop with beverages and a snack.
Bush Breakfast and Sundowner
Going out for a bush breakfast and/or a sundowner in the evening is a must when you visit Africa. We take you to the most romantic and memorable spots. There is nothing quite like sitting in the silence of a remote area, with the splendid array of bird song, while watching the sun rise or set. It’ll make you fall in love with the Zambezi region all over again. You can plan around two hours, start to finish, for one of these delectable and relaxing experiences. We are happy to arrange breakfasts to suit any of your special dietary needs as well.
Cultural Village Tour
This is an opportunity for you to experience a local village and to meet the people who are part of the conservation and development efforts in the area. All of the people who create and sell crafts contribute to the local economy and make it possible for villagers to attain greater financial sustainability. The village is very interesting and well worth a visit.
The mokorro is a canoe made locally in the Zambezi delta region by digging out the trunk of a large, straight tree. It is propelled through the shallow waters of the delta by standing in the stern and pushing with a pole. It is an exciting way to experience nature within the delta as you can get up close to the beautiful birds and reptiles hiding in the reeds because the mokorros move silently. It is also a great way to get a taste for a traditional mode of transportation.
